Micromanagers approved for NHA 1962
The following micromanagers are approved for NHA 1962. All managers must install all of these micromanagers.
- Alexander Cartwright II 2014
- Cap Spalding III 2015
- Mel Herman 2024 I through V
No other micromanagers, including other versions of the listed managers, are currently approved for NHA 1962 use.
Micromanager differences
Alexander Cartwright II 2014 and Cap Spalding III are general-purpose managers who can be used for any season.
The five Mel Herman managers are basically non-AIM versions of Buck Miller.
Herman I and II will set aside either a 4 or 5 man starting rotation. You would only want to use one of these managers if your five best starters also had the most actual starts.
Herman III, IV, and V do not set aside a rotation, so if you are using one of them, you must bench all of your starting pitchers in all of your lineups, or else they may be used in relief. (Benching starters is a really good idea regardless of what MM you use.)
Herman I and III and Cartwright II select closers by saves.
Herman II, IV, and V select closers by “adjusted” grades (grades plus or minus control ratings, possibly also factoring in home run ratings).
Spalding III’s selection process for rotation and closer is not documented.
Installing Micromanagers in Version 5.75 or 6.0
(from APBA Baseball Version 5.75 User’s Guide)
APBA Baseball Micromanagers are generally provided in one of two formats: a self-extracting exe file, or a compressed zip file. Regardless of which way the Manager is packaged, the key to installing him correctly in Version 5.75/6.0 is to point to the correct output folder when you are unpacking the files.
C:\BBW is NOT the correct install folder for Managers in APBA Baseball Version 5.75/6.0.
For Windows 10/11, the default Manager folder is:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\APBA Games\Baseball\MicroManagers
Use the navigation aid (usually a “Browse” button) that is provided by the self-extracting exe file or by your zip file unpacking utility (Windows Explorer, WinZip, 7-Zip, etc.) to navigate to the proper folder as listed above, and unzip the Manager files into that folder.
